Highlights:
Between 1964 and 1973 the prison’s inmates included several captured American pilots, notably Senator John McCain and Douglas ’Pete’ Peterson, America’s first Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.
Most of the original prison was demolished in 1996 to make way for the Hanoi Towers (now Somerset Grand Hanoi) serviced apartment and office complex, but the southernmost corner has been preserved and reopened to the public as a memorial to the revolutionaries who died here in atrocious conditions...
DETAILED ITINERARY:
DAY1: HANOI-SONTAY OLD PRISON
This morning we will start our guided tour and heading for the sontay town, Some 60 km away from Hanoi. The purpose of our trip today is to visit and hear about a very famous prison and the raid on the prison to rescue the US pilots. On November 20-21, 1970, a joint force composed of USAF Special Operations and rescue personnel and U.S. Army Special Forces, supported by U.S. Navy Carrier Task Force 77, made a daring raid on the Son Tay prison camp located less than 30 miles from Hanoi, The objective was to rescue as many as 100 U.S. captives thought to be held there. The assault troops (56 persons), in six ARRS helicopters accompanied by two C-130 aircraft, flew 400 miles to Son Tay from bases in Thailand. U.S. Navy pilots made a diversionary raid while 116 USAF and Navy aircraft from seven air bases and three aircraft carriers flew refueling, surface-to-air missile suppression, fighter cover, close air support, early warning, communications support and reconnaissance missions. Although no prisoners were found in camp, the raid was an unsuccessful in landing. one helicopter hitted against a tree outside prison and cracked down.

DAY2: HANOI CiTY
This morning, our guided tour including of Hochiminh mausoleum, house on stilts, presidential palace and one pillar pagoda(built in 1049). Next will be the former Prison of Hanoi Hilton. Lunch in a local restaurant, Continue our trip by visiting the Hochiminh trails museum where we can understand more about the historic supply routes during Vietnam War. Next, will be transferred back to Hanoi for our cycle trip sightseeing Hanoi old quarter. Tour ends, transfer back to your hotel.(B)
