What is Perfume pagoda? For Vietnamese, "Perfume Pagoda" refers not just to a specific pagoda but also to a region of limestone mountains covering thirty square kilometers. There is a cluster of Buddhist temples which are very sacred to Vietnamese people of Buddhist faith, located on Huong Son Mountain. Perfume Vestige (Huong Tich) Mountain Range stretches about six kilometers along the riverbank of the Day River. In My Duc hamlet, in Ha Tay province, the area is 70 km or two-hour driving out of Hanoi.
According to the book, Huong Son Thien Tru Pha, Huong Tich temple was built during the reign of Le Chinh Hoa (1680-1705), by a monk who happened on the site on his way to search for enlightenment. . Other shrines and temples were later built in this area to take advantage of the beautiful scenery in this area.
Chua Huong has a long history in Vietnamese literature. With the uniqueness of the mountains, river and forests as well as oasis for buddhists in the middle great plains of northern Vietnam. This position makes backdrops so beautiful that its name has been a theme of many songs, topic of poetry. Since the eighteenth century, many famous poets have com posed masterpieces of verse and prose to depict the essence of the Perfume Pagoda highlighted by the atmosphere of the festival. In 1960, Ha Son Binh Publishing House selected and published over forty of the best poems in Perfume Pagoda, which has been republished almost every year.
