+ Bui duc’ message
I was born and grew up in Hanoi, a region of rich cultural tradition. In this region, the traditional lacquer is not only particularly used to produce decorative products but it is still considered as a unique material for creating artwork.
Being passionate about arts using lacquer, I have continuously explored and exploited new technique from which I have, sometime, got new surprise with the outcome, that enriches the images of my artworks. The theme of my paintings is common and simple, full of reminiscence, reflecting the truth and being close to real life.
I use my heart to feel and express the utmost truth, the most common aspects of landscape and its people. The theme of about hill tribes has been the one that I like most. Since those day I was in the army, living close to the hill tribes in the highland, the restlessness thinking of their hard life through endured eyes has always haunted in my mind. And I wish that I could express that through my painting
one day. Besides, the deserted streets of Hanoi and the girls of capital city are also my favorite themes.
To day my small workshop in a rather quiet street, I continue to work, to explore as if I am looking for “ freedom” when creating my artworks with lacquer, a material for the fine art that is still considered as
traditional, necessary to follow most rules in the field of creating fine arts in Vietnam.
